Everything You Need To Know About 5G Technology And The Conspiracy Theories Linked To It.

What Is 5G:

It’s a new cellular-network technology. It can transmit data much more quickly than 4G, which we all use to browse the Internet Today. But it also requires towns and cities to set up a much higher number of small cells, or short-range transmitters, to provide the same geographic coverage as 4G.

Who Owns The 5G Tech?

5G is not “owned” by any individual , however, like with previous generations, companies can own just patents in the technology, in essence earning some money from implementers.

A 2019 Wall Street Journal reported that Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE Corp. have put forth vastly more proposals —and are among the biggest owners of key 5G patents.
5G has been hyped and talked about for a few years, but this is the year that carriers begin the process of rolling out the new wireless standard. AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have all started to deploy their networks in the first half of the year, though widespread availability is still a year or more away. 5G will get a stand in little more than a handful of cities this year.

How much faster is 5G?

5G Network will be about 20 times faster than 4G networks on average, meaning you could download Avengers: Endgame (3gb file)  . Latency could be as low as 1 ms, compared with 50 ms for 4G. So it's really fast and would be good for Industrial purposes.

Let's talk about the Downsides of 5G:

There are worries that 5G could make it easier for law enforcement and others to track a person’s whereabouts because of multiple cells connection . They also have concerns about its potential to greatly improve facial-recognition software.

However, conspiracy theories circulating online claiming that 5G signals have been linked to CANCER have no basis in science, so it's a fallacy.

Is 5G Linked to Covid-19:

Since the existence of the Coronavirus pandemic, a number of viral social media conspiracy theories have speculated that 5G is the cause of the world’s current problems. Simply neglect, these claims are factually false. 5G does not cause Coronavirus.

Do we have 5G in Nigeria?

As of today, there is currently no 5G network or technology available in Nigeria. Also, according to the Nigerian communications commission,(N.C.C) no 5G spectrum has been licensed to telcoms as of today.

Last year, the NCC gave permission for MTN to test the possibilities of 5G technology in three major cities — Lagos, Abuja and Calabar. With only  limitations to their offices in those locations, lasted for three months and has since concluded.

Benefits Of 5G:

Three main crucial benefits of 5g are:
Much higher data rates (1-20 Gbit/s), enabling consumers to download content more quickly.
Much lower latency (1 ms), allowing users to experience less delay/lag when requesting data from the network — a latency of milliseconds, imperceptible to humans.
Increased capacity as the network expands.

Dangers of 5G:

5G isn’t any more or less harmful than any other mobile technology out there. However, limiting the use of devices that emit electromagnetic waves is not a bad idea.
